March 19, 2017 – CAC-RCI Donates to the RCI Foundation and Robert W. Lyons Scholarship Fund

On the evening of Sunday, March 19, 2017, the RCI Foundation (RCIF) held the Annual Foundation Auction Fundraiser.  During the event, CAC-RCI members Charles Sietmann, Ray Makiejus, Patrick Reicher Allysia Youngquist and John Dashner presented RCIF Chairman Mr. Joe Hale, FRCI with a donation to the foundation from the Chapter.  CAC-RCI was one of 17 RCI Affiliated Chapters to provide a donation to the foundation.  Donations fund the Foundations’ mission to support research, advance education, and disseminate information on issues important to the building envelope industry.

The General Research and Education Fund is the basis of RCIF.  The fund exists to support research projects, education and the resulting dissemination of that information as a contribution to the building envelope industry as a whole. Within the past few years, RCIF has awarded grants to such institutions as North Carolina State University, the University of Southern California, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and a partnership with The Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the Department of Energy, to name a few.

In addition to the donation made to RCIF, CAC-RCI made a donation to the Robert “Bob” W. Lyons Scholarship Fund. According to the foundation’s website, Bob Lyons was the founder of RCI, Inc. RCI would not be the organization it is today without Bob’s countless contributed hours, networking, and old-fashioned hard work. While RCI, Inc. and the RCI Foundation are two wholly separate entities, it is reasonable to allow that one was the leading factor into another. In 2016, Bob Lyons lost his courageous battle with cancer. The Robert W. Lyons Scholarship Fund was established to honor the memory of a man who spent his career to advance the building envelope industry, while bringing together thousands of like-minded professionals. This scholarship supports undergraduate-level college students studying engineering, architecture or construction sciences. It is a needs-based scholarship rather than a merit-based award. Thank you letter received from Mr. Rick Gardner, Development Officer for RCI Foundations
