CAC-RCI is a not-for-profit, professional association of building envelope specialists and is an affiliated chapter of RCI, Inc., The Institute of Roofing, Waterproofing, & Building Envelope Professionals. Our members specialize in design, investigation, repair, and management of roofing, exterior wall, and waterproofing systems.

March 19, 2017 – CAC-RCI and Chapter Members Honored at RCI’s 32nd Annual Convention in Anaheim, California

On Sunday, March 19, 2017, the annual RCI Awards Luncheon was conducted. The Chicago Area Chapter of RCI, Inc. (CAC-RCI), along with several CAC-RCI Members, were honored during this event.

CAC-RCI was one of several RCI, Inc. Chapters to receive the Outstanding Affiliated Chapter Award, Platinum Classification.  The Outstanding RCI Affiliated Chapter Award Program was first implemented in 2004 under the direction of Chapter Development Committee Chairman Patrick L. Downey. This program laid the foundation for successful chapter operations and recognition of those chapters each year.

Presenting the award to the Chapter was RCI, Inc.’s incoming Second Vice President, Mr. Robert D. Card.  Accepting the award on behalf of CAC-RCI were CAC-RCI President John Dashner, as well as CAC-RCI Members, Patrick Reicher, Raymond Makiejus, Doug First, and Charles Sietmann.



Mr. Patrick Reicher, SE, REWC, REWO, CCS, CCCA, who currently serves on CAC-RCI’s Board of Directors as Treasurer, was recognized as one of the 1st 15 RCI members to receive the designation of Registered Exterior Wall Observer (REWO).

According to RCI, Inc.’s website, REWOs  are quality assurance observers who, have successfully completed a thorough application and examination process.  The REWO title is evolving as the preferred standard of practice for exterior wall quality assurance professionals.  REWOs  monitor the construction process to ensure that exterior wall systems stay in compliance with approved construction drawings, specifications, and best-practice or warranty-stipulated installation procedures.


Mr. Charles Sietmann, RRO, CCCA, CIT, who currently serves on CAC-RCI’s Board of Directors as Secretary, was recognized for receiving second-place honors in RCI’s Document Competition for his entry for the Park 1500 Lofts Roof Replacement.  Presenting the award was Document Competition Subcommittee Chair, Mr. Christopher Giffin, RRC, AIA.

The Document Competition is an annual event organized to recognize members’ excellence in roofing, waterproofing, and exterior wall construction project documentation. Each of the winning entries were on display at the RCI International Trade Show.



Mr. Raymond Makiejus, RRC, RRO was presented with a certificate of appreciation as an outgoing region director.  Presenting the certificate was RCI, Inc.’s outgoing president, Mr. Robért Hinojosa, RRC, RWC, RRO, REWC, RBEC, PE.

RCI Regions encompass multi-state geographical areas. Each RCI region is administered by an RCI Region Director who is a member of the RCI Board of Directors. Mr. Makiejus completed the 2nd year of his 2nd term as RCI Region III Director. Mr. Makiejus has transitioned into a Director on the Board for the Chicago Area Chapter of RCI, Inc.



Mr. Dennis McNeil, FRCI, RRC, RRO, CCS was also recognized as a Retiring Nominating Committee Member. The Nominating Committee makes nominations for RCI offices, oversees the Association’s election, make policy recommendations for matters related to RCI elections, and administers the RCI’s leadership development programs.

Mr. Kami Farahmandpour, PE, FRCI, REWC, RRC, RWC, RBEC, CCS, CCCA was also recognized as a Retiring Education Committee member. The Education Committee recommends to the Board of Directors policy on matters related to the Institute’s educational programs. The Committee assesses need and participates in the development of educational programs for RCI members and the roofing, waterproofing, and building envelope industries at large.
